What is Test & Tag?

Test and Tag is the name given to the process of checking the safety of portable electrical appliances. It involves two parts: first visually inspecting the appliance for any damage, followed by electrically testing it with a Portable Appliance Tester.

Will testing and tagging damage my electrical equipment?

No. Each individual appliance is assessed prior to testing, and the appropriate test is determined and conducted. All our technicians are expertly trained with years of experience, ensuring your electrical appliances are free from damage.

How frequently do I need to test?

AS/NZS 3760:2022 is specific about re-inspection protocols, which vary according to the location of equipment, the environment in which it operates, and the level of risk associated with use.

Testing of items varies from daily in extreme circumstances, monthly, three-monthly, six-monthly, yearly, two-yearly, or five-yearly.

What is a RCD?

An RCD is a Residual Current Device, which is designed to prevent you from receiving a fatal electric shock, should you touch a live item such as an exposed cable or broken light switch. RCD’s offer a level of personal protection that a standard fuse or circuit breaker cannot.

How do I get a copy of my Test and Tag results?

At the conclusion of testing, Ready Set Test staff will email you an itemised  invoice, along with a full test report of the work carried out onsite.

Is test and tag mandatory in Australia?

Yes, under Australian workplace health and safety legislation, regular testing and tagging of electrical equipment are required to maintain a safe working environment.

What equipment needs testing in my workplace?

All electrical items designed for connection by flexible supply cord and plug top to 240v or 415v power need to be inspected, tested, and tagged in every type of workplace, organisation, or community centre. All portable plug-in appliances and electrical plug-in appliances located in your workplace and plugged into a power point situated less than 2.5m from the ground require inspection, testing, and tagging.

How long will testing and tagging take?

Depending on the appliance, testing and tagging of each item will take several minutes. Each appliance is comprehensively visually tested prior to any electrical test being conducted. Appliances also require a number of electrical tests to be completed before they can be deemed to have passed the test and tag process, but dont worry did you know we can service your business out of hours or on weekends?

What happens if an item fails the test?

From time to time an item will fail and there is a responsibility from the technician to report the defective item and label it accordingly. These items are withdrawn from use and depending on the fault further testing or repairs can be completed to fix the fault.

Do new appliances need to be Tested & Tagged?

New appliances should be visually inspected and tagged as 'new to service' with the date of entry into service. They should then be included in the regular testing schedule.
